Every career has a strategic next step

The h-index is one measure of a researcher’s productivity and impact in publications. For example, if an h-index is 15 that means the researcher has had at least 15 publications cited by others at least 15 times.

The h-index is a window into academic reach, but it’s not the whole house. In fields like clinical salvage, impact is often measured in lives saved and systems restored—metrics that a citation count can't always see. We use this challenge as a fun way to benchmark research visibility, while recognizing that the most important work often happens beyond the page.
